Why I have this book: A friend recommended it, then I recommended it to our book club.
Sooooo... I only gave this 3 stars on Goodreads. I was disappointed that I didn't like it more. I kind of dragged for me a bit, and there was some yucky language in it.
It's a memoir, and while the author's life is interesting, it wasn't interesting enough to me to really love it. Maybe it's because I'm in school and I didn't have enough energy to get hooked, but actually, none of the book club members seemed to love it, either. Actually, I'm not sure if everyone read it. It seems to have fallen flat in our group, so while I didn't hear a lot of "I hate this!" I also didn't hear any, "I loved this book!" I can't even remember if we ended up having book club the month we were going to discuss it. (I've been hit and miss with book club this year.)
This book had bad language, including the F-word, and there wasn't a real strong sense of morality in general, although the book really wasn't about that and wasn't descriptive, as far as I can recall. (Writing this in December - still playing catch up!)

I Can Forgive with God (Ganel-Lyn Condie)
Why I have this book: I probably saw it in a local bookstore catalog, and since I had read her first book and liked it, I decided to read this one, also.
I gave this 4 stars on Goodreads. It's a compilation of stories from people who had reason to forgive. Some are regular life kind of things, some are pretty big deals. They are all thought-provoking.
(Still catching up, so I don't remember a lot of details as I write this in December after reading it in October!)

A Love Undone: An Amish Novel of Shattered Dreams and God's Unfailing Grace (Cindy Woodsmall)
Why I have this book: A friend recommended it, and I was still in "light reading" mode, so I bought it. (It had been on my Wish List for a while.)
I gave this three stars on Goodreads. Since I'm writing this in December (even though I'm dating the post as if I wrote it as soon as I finished the book), I don't really remember much about it. Even reading the Amazon description isn't bringing back a ton of memories. Three stars = I liked it. Better than 2 stars (It was okay) and not quite as good as 4 stars (Really liked it). Haha!
It fit the bill of a light read, so I'm okay with that.

Two books by Rebecca Connolly
Secrets of a Spinster
Married to the Marquess
Why I have these books: I think they were super cheap on Kindle and I wanted light reads. (I'm in school now, so light reads are kinda all I can handle.)
I only gave them 2 stars on Goodreads. (To be honest, I'm playing catch up here on the blog. I was going to just switch to Goodreads, but today I looked up a book here and it was nice to have more than just "stars" to go off of when it came to my opinion. So I'm back... and putting in the dates of when I really read the books, even though I'm writing this in December...)
Anyway, I just looked up the descriptions of these books on Amazon (because I couldn't really remember what they were about) and here's what I have to say:
Secrets of a Spinster: Cute'ish. Light. Mindless read.
Married to the Marquess: Cuter than Secrets. Still light. Still mindless.
I don't hate that I read them, but I did only give them 2 stars when I put them on Goodreads, so I must not have gone beyond "It was okay" in my opinion at the time.

A Man Called Ove (Fredrik Backman)
Why I have this book: It's all the rage nowadays, and a friend recommended it, too. I borrowed it from the ebook library.
I'm a bit torn on this book. On the one hand, it has a warm, fuzzy feel to it. I had a few moments of chuckling in my mind. On the other hand, I am bothered by parts of it. So I'm just not certain what I think.
And... the man, Ove, is only 59. Yet he is described and acts like he's 80. I picture the story of his childhood and early adult years as being set further back in history than is possible considering his current age and the current time period of the story. I mean, there are iPads and cell phones, so it's not like it was set back in the 20th century.
I just can't put my finger on it, but it's mostly got me all befuddled. I gave it 3 stars on Goodreads.
There is some swearing, including the F-word and taking the Lord's name in vain. There is a character (or two) who are gay.

Truly Madly Guilty (Liane Moriarty)
Why I have this book: Because I like the author's books.
I really like her writing style, although this one felt a little too similar to another of her books. Still, I love the way her books suck me in. I can spend a whole day just engrossed in her stories. This one had a couple of interesting twists, and like all her books, brought out the complexity of human emotions.
She still uses the F-word way too often and too casually, and she talks about sex (although she doesn't describe sexual encounters) also very casually. I admit that this time I didn't give her 4 stars (on Goodreads) because I'm tired of her swearing, but I also admit that I really like her writing. Anyway, I would only recommend her books to friends who I know can separate out the bad stuff and still appreciate the way she writes. It would be so much easier if she would just clean up the language, but I realize that not everyone thinks it's a big deal. (sigh)

The Long Awaited Child (Tracie Peterson)
Why I have this book: It was available for immediate borrowing on the ebook library, so I borrowed it. It's not like I don't have a million other books to read already. ;)
This book got better as it went along. I wasn't super impressed with the writing early in the book... conversations between characters, for example, just felt unnatural and it wasn't easy to get sucked in completely. But I was invested enough to keep going, and I ended up liking the storyline in general.
