Why I have this book: I borrowed it from the ebook library because there's all sorts of acclaim for it out there in the reading world.
I liked this book very much. There is always the risk that memoirs are embellished or even not completely truthful, but I'm taking this at face value. (The "A Note on the Text" at the end really helped me feel more comfortable with the author's credibility.)
It's amazing the crazy lives some people experience in this world.
I gave this 4 stars on Goodreads, but if I had the option, I would have given it 4.5.
Mostly clean. There are quite a few swear words (but none of the "worst" ones), and some description of domestic violence. There are also a few descriptions of significant injuries.

The Little Book of Hygge: The Danish Way to Live Well (Meik Wiking)
Why I have this book: It was recommended by a group I follow on FB, so I bought the inexpensive Kindle version.
I like the idea of hygge, but I could have learned about it in an article instead of in a book. To be honest, the book was pretty monotonous, although there were a few standout points.

Watch and Be Ready: Preparing Spiritually for the Second Coming of Christ (Brent L. Top)
Why I have this book: I borrowed the audio version from the DBS+.
I only gave this book two stars on Goodreads. I feel bad about that, but I didn't find it super engrossing. The information was good, and the author did a nice job narrating it, but I felt like I could have read most of it in an article in a lot less time.
So I guess I'm saying, "Good info, but too long for what was presented."

White Picket Fences (Susan Meissner)
Why I have this book: I borrowed it from the ebook library because I like the author.
I gave this book 4 stars on Goodreads. It kept me engrossed from the very beginning. The ending fell just a tiny bit flat for me, like maybe one situation tied up a little too neatly (and brought up some new questions), and another situation seemed a little too contrived considering the storyline, but all in all, it was another great read by Susan Meissner. I loved the historical aspect.
Clean. There may have been one swear word, but other than that, I don't recall anything objectionable.

A Girl's Guide to Moving On (Debbie Macomber)
Why I have this book: I checked it out of the ebook library because it was one of a series.
This is the second book of the series that I was giving a chance, even though the first book only warranted one star in my opinion. I could have given this book three stars except for a few things:
1) The main character is completely different than how she was portrayed in the first book. It just didn't seem like an easy transition from who she was before to who she is now. Granted, a couple of years had gone by and she probably matured, but still...
2) Crass. Seriously, Debbie? Who is your target audience? Probably mostly middle-aged women, and we don't talk like Shawntelle, nor do we appreciate it. (Okay, so I'm speaking for myself, but I'm betting a lot of other women would agree.)
3) Rocco's comment about growing a female part just because he's acting sensitive and kind. Again... seriously, Debbie? Not really that funny.
4) I also wondered how Nichole went from being the wife of a very wealthy man to not having any alimony or child support to support her current life. That didn't make sense and was never explained.
5) I also didn't see how Nikolai was attractive at all with all his whining.
Anyway, I could probably make a longer list, but I won't. As I said, I would have given it three stars on Goodreads, but the crass comments dropped it down to a two. The writing was better than the first book in the series. I won't be reading the rest of the series, though.

Last One Home (Debbie Macomber)
Why I have this book: I borrowed it from the ebook library because I've enjoyed other books by the author.
I gave this book only one star on Goodreads. The writing was so shallow that I even stopped in the middle to see if it really was a Debbie Macomber book. Then later, I checked the publication date to see if it was one of her first books. The writing was so mediocre! The characters weren't well developed, the daughter was super annoying, the love interest wasn't very bright. There was no chemistry (other than what the author told us was there... I couldn't "feel" it in the writing), the relationships throughout the book weren't believable. It really just didn't work for me in any way.
Having said that, I have the next two books in the series checked out already (before I read this one), and I'll probably give the second one a try. If it's as bad as this one, I probably won't read the third.
