Why I have this book: It's another "borrow" on my Kindle. I sure like the library loaning program for Kindle!
I think I've read one other book by Debbie Macomber, but I don't remember much about it. She was just featured in a Christian magazine I read, so I figured it would be a clean read.
So... I liked this book quite a bit. Nothing challenging about it at all. It's one of those "bathtub" or "beach" reads... soemthing that doesn't require a lot of brain power.
Some of it was a bit corny, but she did a good job developing most of the characters. I guess it's part of a series (Blossom Street). There sure were a lot of widows in the book.
Anyway, yeah... enjoyable book.
ETA: I ended up reading several of the the other books in this series. Some of them had more swearing and more sexuality (still nothing graphic). I liked one of the character's philosophy on "life affirmation" (she is a cancer survivor), but overall, these aren't books I'd spend more money on. Library? Yes, if I want something totally light and mindless to read.
There may have been one mild swear word, and a hint of sensuality... and a weird exchange of words between a mother and daughter.

The Believer (Ann H. Gabhart)
Why I have this book: I borrowed it from the library for my Kindle.
Well... this book was interesting. First of all, I didn't know anything about the Shakers other than having seen "Shaker style" furniture from time to time.
Their beliefs sure are interesting. I don't even know if they exist still. I'll have to look into it.
The book itself was really good in some spots and super corny and lame in others. That's all I really have to say about it.
I would pass it on if it was my book.

Until We Reach Home (Lynn Austin)
Why I have this book: I borrowed it from the library on my Kindle.
I'm 99.9% sure I've read this book before. I don't know when, and I'm pretty sure I didn't review it on here (but if I did already, forgive me!)
I liked this book a lot. The thing is, I really want to know what happened AFTER it ended. There is still more than one story to tell. As far as I know, the author hasn't continued the story, but maybe she will at some point.
Like some of her other books, the ended ties up rather neatly. And again, the stories of the faith the characters show or develop is not real deep. It's hard to "feel" their faith, because you don't get that much depth in each character. That's unfortunate, I think.
Even so, I liked this book quite a bit. It's a good light, uplifting, Christian book.

All She Ever Wanted (Lynn Austin)
Why I have this book: I borrowed it from the e-book library.
I like Lynn Austin books. I'm pretty sure I've mentioned that before. I liked this one, too. I didn't LOVE it for two reasons:
It switches between 3 generations, which is just something I don't love so much. I get all invested in one storyline and then it changes. Then I get invested in that storyline and it changes again! I'm not a hater of that way of writing, but it just disrupts the flow for me... it's distracting. My problem, I know.
The second reason I didn't LOVE it was because parts of it didn't seem plausible. The ending tied up too neatly and too quickly. There were things that happened that should have had more depth to them than was explained. I guess I mean that she hit on some deep wounds, but didn't write to the depth that seemed to be required.
The same thing applies to the characters who had strong faith. I felt like the author could have developed that more deeply.
Still, it was a good book. It kept my interest.
This book is clean. There are some hard topics, but none of them were explored enough to be really disturbing.
